The four recording sources
| Source | When to use it | Script? |
|---|---|---|
| Complete process (all applications) | A procedure that spans several programs. You pick only the monitor; everything that happens on it goes into the documentation, including switching applications halfway through. SAP GUI sessions come with the field ids, as in the SAP GUI mode, and browser pages with the selectors, through the REC extension ("Connect browser…" button). | Project |
| SAP GUI | A procedure entirely inside SAP. Fields are described by their real on-screen label. | Yes |
| Web application (browser) | A procedure in a web system. The REC opens the browser with a profile of its own, where logins and SSO survive between recordings. | Yes |
| Desktop application (Java and others) | One specific Windows program. Useful when nothing outside it should be captured. | Project |
In the Complete process, the REC works out on its own which application received each action and groups the steps by stage in the document. It never records itself, and actions outside the chosen monitor are ignored.
